For the last month and a half we have been indulging in some of the best burgers in Gresham and have put it all together here for our readers to enjoy! This ended up being a much larger project then we initially intended with new great burgers popping up as we went along so we broke this up into a three-part post, stay tuned for part two that will be shared next week! So without further ado….we give you our burger breakdown!
The Local Cow – The Holy Cow
If you live in Gresham and you have not heard of, or eaten at, The Local Cow then you may not have a pulse or you are the boy in the bubble. If that’s the case, get a hold of us right away and we will personally deliver to you one of the many amazing burgers from this great establishment, it will change your life!
The Local Cow opened its doors on March 12th 2012 and hasn’t looked back since! The Local Cow prides themselves on serving the best local ingredients including pasture-raised, Oregon Source Verified Beef patties as well as brioche buns from Portland French Bakery! Translation…really, really good homegrown grub that clearly reflects in the deliciousness of each bite!
This very local eatery has an amazing laid-back and comfortable vibe, with an open kitchen surrounded by several tables, a warming fireplace and couch that feels like a living room tempting you to put your feet up on the table and sing along with the Willie Nelson they have cranked up in the background.
The Local Cow has so many great burgers so we encourage you to frequent The Cow and try such creations as the….
Pendleton: Tillamook cheddar, bacon, crispy onion petals and tangy BBQ sauce
Rockwood: Pepper jack cheese, guacamole, crispy fried banana peppers, chipotle mayo
EL Chupacabra: House-made pimento cheese, bacon, roasted jalapenos, goat slayer sauce
Fort Stevens: Blue cheese crumbles, sautéed mushrooms, bacon, black truffle mayo
and so much more! Here is a link to the menu for you to do a little research before you head out the door to get your grub on! The Local Cow Menu!
For this article we selected the Holy Cow and could not have been more happy with our choice! 1/3 lb grass-fed, Oregon sourced beef patty, thin sliced pastrami, Swiss and American cheese, caramelized onions and horseradish cream on a brioche bun!
With the first bite it was clear that all of the locally-sourced ingredients make this burger stand out from most burgers! The pastrami tasted as though it was steam-cooked on the grill top to perfection and combined with, without overpowering, the incredible flavor of the perfectly seasoned beef patty. The Swiss cheese melted evenly over the pastrami and beef patty topped with the caramelized onions, acting as an incredible glue that binded this burger’s brioche bun together. Having said all of that, the thing that brought it all together, was the horseradish cream that balanced out the pastrami and blended the burger completely! This horseradish cream hits the taste buds perfectly with just a little spice and tangy goodness that left us wanting to order another! The burger was incredible and this horseradish cream sent it into the strata!
Along with The Local Cow’s amazing array of burgers, the beer selection is extensive and reflects the local vibe as most are from Oregon breweries you may or may not have heard of including Alameda Brewing, Burnside Brewing, Caldera Brewing or Pelican Brewing! With that extensive list in mind, if you can’t find the beer you’re looking for at The Local Cow, then you can put an order in at The Hoppy Brewer right next door, and Hoppy has literally anything with barley, hops and malt you can think of!

Dea’s In and Out – Long Burger with Cheese
Spinella’s Off the Wall – Bell Tower Bacon
Spinella’s Off the Wall is one of the great places in Gresham to go out to with friends for the evening, with karaoke and live music several nights a week with no cover! The atmosphere is always lively and those who frequent feel as though they are part of a family.
There is always something happening at Spinella’s with movie night screenings of a wide variety of movie’s like “Back to the Future”, “That Thing You Do”, “Pulp Fiction”, and many more! And Paint Night at Spinella’s has also become a popular, fun event where anyone can purchase a ticket and learn to paint while enjoying some great food and, of course, tasty beverages!
The venue is an old Evangelical church built in the 1920s with a large open-space dining hall surrounded by beautiful, arched windows that let in tremendous natural light during the day and soaring ceilings that lend to amazing acoustics for the frequent musical performances. The large fully-stocked bar stretches across the back of the restaurant with the most noticeable aspect of the dining hall, the stage, located at the side wall always ready for either Karaoke or live music.
The food at Spinella’s is some of the best in the city with a wide ranging menu covering all types of delectable entrees, appetizers and custom drinks! Very few restaurants have such variety in their menu with most choosing to focus on one specific cuisine – Spinella’s does everything from sandwiches and wraps to a whole other menu of “Sicilian Soul Food”, a nod to old-world Sicilian cooking. But what keeps many coming back for more is their towering and delicious burgers like the Dea’s Cellar, the classic Main Avenue, or their numerous rotating special burgers!
We went with the Bell Tower Bacon because, bacon! Needless to say, we were not disappointed. This baby is literally “bursting with bacon” with bacon packed into the never frozen, local, sustainable, hormone free 100% fresh ground local chuck patty topped with more bacon, Tillamook cheddar, lettuce, tomato, red onion and, drumroll please, bacon aioli! Before you prepare to sit down and eat this, you better unhinge your jaw because this thing this humungous and you’re going to want to get the medley of flavors in one bite! The patty is perfectly prepared – juicy, tender and not overcooked at all and the smokiness of all the bacon lends a great depth of flavor. Combine that with the classic fresh toppings of crisp lettuce and juicy tomatoes and you’ll be glad this masterpiece is served on a hearty Italian roll that’s much more structurally sound than a typical bun! The only way to enhance this burger is to pair it with the “scared straight” seasoned fries (Spinella’s take on curly fries) and a Spinella’s “South of Powell” IPA a blend of Citra, Amarillo and Centennial hops. Spinella’s Off the Wall has become an institution in Gresham and if you haven’t been, then your missing out and if you have been, you must return and try this burger soon!
